New York City’s Most Interesting Museums

One of the countless things that Manhattan is known for are its many fabulous museums. Most obviously there are art museums like The Met, MoMA, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, but there are also many other types of NYC museums like the Natural History Museum and even a great wax museum.

Below you will find a short description of each of the 5 museums I just mentioned so that you can find out which of these museums you would most like to visit when you’re in New York. Free entry to all of these museums is included with the New York Pass.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art - This huge art history museum is often referred to simply as “The Met” and while it is mostly museum of art it’s also really more than that. It is a fantastic place to visit for anyone who is interested in history. The only negative to this museum is that it is so huge that it can be a bit overwhelming. It is impossible to really see everything in a single day.

The Museum of Modern Art - The MoMA is aimed at people who are quite knowledgable about modern art. It features artwork by Salvador Dali, Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, and Vincent Van Gogh. I would say that the MoMA is probably not as “family friendly” as some of the others on here. If you have children then you may want to choose a different museum.

The Guggenheim Museum - The Guggenheim is probably more well known for its incredible architectural design than the artwork within it. It was built by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959. It’s definitely worth getting a ticket and going inside and checking it out (and of course the great artwork!) It is not as much of an overwhelming experience as the Met and the MoMA.

The American Museum of Natural History - For most people I would say this should be the number one choice. It’s not only that it’s very “family friendly” but I just think it is more interesting to a larger group of adults. I just do not see how anyone cannot be curious about seeing a skeleton of a dinosaur up close. It’s incredible to stand next to these enormous skeletons.

Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum - This fun museum is a very “family friendly” place. Your kids will probably really enjoy seeing life size wax statues of celebrities (both living and deceased.) It’s pretty fun for adults too. It’s a great choice if you are in a silly mood rather than a serious one.

The New York Pass features free tickets to all five of these museums.

Regardless of whether you want to go to any of these museums or not, you should certainly use the New York City Hotel Deals website to find the best deals on luxury hotels in New York.

The Museum Of Modern Art In New York City

If you are a follower of great art then there may not be a better place to go to in the world than the MoMA in Manhattan.

This museum, located on W. 53rd St. in Midtown Manhattan, is among the most frequently visited and respected art museums in the United States. About two and a half million people visit it. While that is a good amount of visitors; I should mention that it is actually about half as many as visit New York’s two most popular museums the Natural History Museum and the Met. I believe the higher foot traffic for these other two museums is due to them being more “family oriented.”

The Museum of Modern Art first opened its doors in October of 1929 shortly after the stock market crash that started the Great Depression. The idea for the museum was first developed by Abby Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss, and Mary Quinn Sullivan. It was the year 1939 when the museum was moved to West 53rd Street.

MoMA’s Van Gogh and Picasso exhibitions in the 1930s were important in helping to build the fantastic reputations they continue to hold as some of the most important artists in the “modern era.”

Today you can see many wonderful paintings at the Museum of Modern Art including The Starry Night by Van Gogh, The Sleeping Gypsy by Henri Rousseau, The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali, Broadway Boogie Woogie by Piet Mondrian, Love Song by Giorgio De Chirico, along with work by artists such as Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Umberto Boccioni, and Yoko Ono.

If you’re not a New Yorker and you are planning on visiting MoMA and New York’s other museums on a trip to NYC then you may want to think about purchasing a New York Pass which includes entry to this museum among over 50 other tourist activities. It’s a huge time and money saver if you are planning on getting the full NYC experience on your visit.

If you need a hotel for your trip to New York you should go to New York Hotel Deals.

Manhattan Hotels: Luxury & Budget Hotel Reservations

There are hundreds of hotels to stay at in Manhattan. There are really so many Manhattan Hotels that it can be very hard to know which one to picks for your visit to the “city that never sleeps.” So I’m creating this article which includes five of the best hotels in Manhattan to help you find what you make the right choice.

Omni Berkshire Place has a great location very close to Rockefeller Center. It has almost entirely positive guest reviews as would be expected for a four star luxury hotel such as this. But it’s not the place to stay if you are searching for a discount because a Friday or Saturday night reservation in the summer will cost you over $400. If you are one of those pet lovers that has to bring their “best friend” with them on vacation then you’ll be happy to know this hotel is indeed pet friendly.

The Four Seasons Hotel on 57th Street is a fantastic luxury hotel that has rooms with wonderful views of Central Park. This is an exceptionally fancy 5 star hotel. So fancy that it makes Omni Berksire Place look like a cheap hotel by comparison. To stay here you’ll likely spend about $1000/night.

Greenwich Hotel is located in Greenwich Village and it’s a cool place to stay for sophisticated travelers who are looking to stay in one of the more interesting parts of Manhattan. This is a very popular hotel so reservations should be made quickly if you want to secure your room.

If you can’t afford to spend a fortune on a room but you would still like to stay at a great location then you may want to stay at the “Presidential” Best Western near Times Square! Don’t get me wrong, it is definitely not really cheap but by Manhattan standards less than $300/room is called “a discount.”

The Gershwin Hotel on East 27th Street is great for younger travelers who like the idea of spending the night in an unusual unique hotel and who are very poor. The price for a bed here is very low but you don’t get your own space. This hotel is not good for travelers who need private space.

No matter which hotel you make your online reservations at, you should consider ordering a New York Pass because it really saves a lot of time & money when it comes to NYC tourist activities such as the Museum of Modern Art.

Buy A New York Pass And Do These Fun Things In NYC

What follows are 5 fun ideas for tourist activities during your stay in New York. All of these activities are included as a part of the time and money saving New York Pass.

1. Visit the Statue of Liberty. For years after 9/11 you couldn’t do a full tour of the Statue of Liberty because of fears of another terrorist attack in the city but now it’s opened up again. This is probably the most famous statue in the world and it’s been a great symbol of freedom for over 100 years. Remember to give thanks to the French who gave the United States this copper statue as a gift in 1886.

2. Visit the Met. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is enormous. You could spend all day there and only scratch the surface! The museum also provides some activities specifically for children. I think it’s great to instill a sense of intellectual curiosity in your children as soon as possible and taking them to the Met is certainly one way to do that.

3. Take a Food on Foot Tour. There are many great things about New York but in my opinion the very best thing is obviously the food! If you’ve never really eaten good food before (and sadly this is true for many Americans) then you are in for a real treat. And no; Olive Garden is not good food.

4. Visit Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. Seeing these impressively lifelike wax statues up close is a real hoot. It’s fun to take pictures with celebrities from the past and present. You don’t even have to ask them permission.

5. Take the “On Location” Tour. There are many spots in Manhattan that are famous for being on television or in the movies. On this tour you get to see some of them. The tour includes spots featured in Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, and The Sopranos.

No matter what you choose to do while you are in New York, you should definitely make your NYC hotel reservations with New York Hotel Deals because it always finds the absolute lowest room rate available on the internet.

New York Hotel Deals functions by searching over 30 other hotel sites at the same time for the lowest room rate. Obviously this is extremely helpful as far as saving you the time and effort you would otherwise spend searching through all of those websites on your own and it’s also a cash saver since it ensures that you get the lowest room rate anywhere.

Hotel Deals Finder performs the same function except that it searches for the best hotel deals in cities all around the world. Why waste your precious time searching through all of those hotel sites yourself when you can “let the octopus search them for you!”

The Coolest Things About Taking A Trip To NYC

NYC is a great town to visit for lots of reasons. But I think my favorite two reasons have to be the delicious food and the always happening live music scene.

If you are like a lot of Americans and you live in an area where the only restaurants to eat out at are chain restaurants then you might not have ever actually had really good food in your whole life. Sure, you’ve had some meals that you may have thought were good because you didn’t know what is really good yet. But when you come to New York City you will get an education on how good a restaurant can really be.

When visiting New York City I strongly suggest purchasing a New York Pass since it includes some money saving discounts for many different tourist activities with the best of all being the food tours! On these tours you can taste some delicious food from five or six restaurants in one go. It is a simple way to get a taste for the spectacular variety of New York City restaurants.

And how about the live music? There are essentially no major bands that don’t play a show in NYC. No one skips the Big Apple. Even if one of your favorite bands or artists isn’t playing a show during your visit you are sure to find plenty of good music in the city every night of the year.

If you’re into jazz then you’re really in luck because New York City has lots of live jazz to hear every single night. And of course NYC is also the birthplace of hip-hop so you’re very likely to find a lot of great underground rap if you take the time to look around for it.

Among the venues you should check out of are The Beacon Theater, Webster Hall, Smalls, BB King’s, the Appolo Theater, Coco66, and the Bowery Ballroom.

Ten Great Things For Tourists In NYC To Do

There are so many things to do in New York City that even narrowing them down to a list of 10 is nearly impossible. This list of ten things to do in NYC is focused on people who want to do “tourist activities” rather than people who want to experience “real New York City.”

1. Empire State Building. The most famous building in the world since it was built in the 1930s and because of the tragic events of 2001, it is once again the tallest building in New York City. Take a trip to the top just like King Kong for an incredible view!

2. The Statue of Liberty. Ever since the French sent this wonderful statue to the USA it has been a symbol for our country and the idea of freedom.

3. Food on Foot Tours. I strongly recommend taking one of these food tours! The food in Manhattan is fantastic.

4. Museum of Modern Art. I could fill this list up entirely with museums but I’m trying to mix it up a bit.

5. The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “The Met” is the most popular museum in the US.

6. Natural History Museum. If you have kids this is almost definitely the museum they will most appreciate. It’s really a fabulous museum for curious people of all ages.

7. Circle Line River Cruise. Take a boat ride around Manhattan!

8. Bodies… The Exhibition. Personally I find this exhibition truly creepy but if you are into viewing the bodies of deceased human beings up close with your own eyes then this is the thing for you.

9. Bicycle Rental at Central Park. Rather than taking a walk in Central Park, you can rent a bike and take a ride through the most famous park in the world!

10. Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Sort of like a zoo for plants!

All 10 of these things are included as a part of the New York City Pass.

Regardless of what you want to do while you are there, you should certainly use New York City Hotel Deals to make hotel reservations.

The Top Food Tours In New York City

There are countless fabulous things about Manhattan but I think my very favorite just may be the delicious food!

If you happen to be like so many poor souls and you live in “anywhere, USA” then you are most likely stuck with eating at boring not particularly good chain restaurants like Olive Garden when you go out for a meal. But on your trip to NYC you will get a chance to taste what you’ve been missing at some of the best restaurants in the world.

One way to taste a lot of delicious foods during your visit is to go on one of the “Foods of New York Tours.” These tours are just one of the over fifty things to do and sights to see included in the New York Pass. This money saving pass is a great choice for anyone coming to the Big Apple.

There are a number of different New York City food tours available. They are: Chinatown, Chelsea Market, Central Greenwich Village (with some SoHo), and The Original Greenwich Village. Each of the food tours features different shops and restaurants.

The Chinatown tour focuses on Chinese food including peking duck and dumplings. On the Chinatown tour you will taste some of the most delicious Chinese food anywhere in the world from three different restaurants and two specialty food shops.

On the Chelsea Market tour you will get to have a taste of specialties from seven different food shops and one fabulous restaurant. Among the shops you get to visit are Sarabeth’s Bakery and Buon Italia. The restaurant is an Italian steak house called Macelleria.

The Central Greenwich Village tour features five “tastings on the go” and two tastings done in seated restaurants. Among the “on the go” tastings are Focacceria and Joe’s Dairy. The seated restaurants are Monte’s Trattoria and Cuba Restaurant.

The Original Greenwich Village tour includes six “tastings on the go” and one seated tasting in a restaurant. Among the great places you will get to try on this tour are Faicco’s Italian Specialties, Rocco’s, and Joe’s Pizza.

When going to NYC you should definitely use New York Hotel Deals to get the best deals on the perfect hotel for your needs.

Five Of Manhattan’s Most Expensive Restaurants

If you are a real foodie and you’re planning a trip to NYC (or you actually live there) then you may want to think about going to one of the following five extremely fancy (and extremely expensive) restaurants.

Daniel is a neo-renaissance styled French restaurant featuring a menu from acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud. Obviously the food is the best reason to go to this fabulous restaurant but it’s stylish decor is also quite beautiful. There is a soaring ceiling, rich mahogany doors, and elegant Corinthian columns. It is located on East 60th street near Central Park.

Jean-Georges is a signature restaurant of chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. When you consider that the basic “tasting menu” is about $100 not including wine this is probably a place you would only want to visit on a very special occasion such as an anniversary. It is located in the Trump International Hotel and Tower.

Masa is an extremely sushi restaurant without a menu and only has seating for 26 people. The price per person is well over $300 and every guest has chef Masayoshi Takayama’s “omakase” which means that the chef decides what you will be having.

Sugiyama is a Japanese restaurant which follows the “kaiseki” tradition. This means that your meal will be a series of dishes which start with the delicate (and raw) items on the menu to the heavy (and cooked) dishes. Rich businessmen on trips from Japan make up many of the customers here.

Alain Ducasse is named after chef Alain Ducasse who is certainly among the most famous chefs in the whole world. For approximately $200 you will get a lovely seven course meal at this fine French restaurant. Jackets are required for men so don’t show up wearing sweatpants and a tshirt.

If you would rather not spend hundreds of dollars for a single meal but you still want to eat some truly excellent food then I suggest checking out the Taj Mahal indian restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. You will get a true NYC experience by going into Brooklyn and you will get delicious meals for a very reasonable price.

Brooklyn actually has a lot worth seeing and in many ways it is more interesting than Manhattan. If you are interested in doing something besides the usual stuff on your visit to NYC, perhaps you should look for a Brooklyn, New York Hotel Deal. The most obvious part of Brooklyn to visit is Williamsburg which is just about the most hip place to live in the country these days.
