Google Adwords: Do It Myself V.s. Hire An Adwords Manager

Google Adwords is hands down one of the best forms of internet marketing when you’re trying to figure out how to get on Google. You can control everything about your advertising portfolio, its $5 to start, and your ads are up instantly.

With that being said, you need to know what you are doing. It’s very easy to drive traffic to your site with Adwords, and even easier to rack up a high bill without many conversions. That leaves you with two options: you can learn the art of Adwords on your own, or you can hire a professional to do it for you. Let’s examine the pros and cons of each:

DO IT YOURSELF: PRO

YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT

Needless to say, if you do it yourself, you’ll save some cash. If you have a small account and are only advertising a couple of services, this may be the better way to go. You’ll need to invest the time upfront in learning Adwords, but once you get it down, you could save a lot of money in the long run.

DO IT YOURSELF: CON

YOU HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF

While doing it yourself can save you money, you need to ask yourself, “How much is my time worth?” You may find that the time you would take to properly maintain your account would be better spent elsewhere. This saying is even more fitting for the business owner. A professional Adwords manager can not only do it for you, but they can more than likely do things better and more quickly.

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL: PRO

EXPERIENCE OVER TIME

One of the best skills an Adwords manager can bring to the table is not only experience, but experience over time. There are certain things in any field that can only be learned over time. An experienced Adwords manager will be able to create and maintain your campaign in a way that the Adwords beginner won’t be able to.

Sure, you can buy some kind of a Google Adwords how to guide, but it won’t compare to hiring a professional. Hiring a pro will certainly help to lower your costs, increase sales, and drive up profits.

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL: CON

YOU HAVE TO PAY MONTHLY

Love may be free, but Adwords managers are not. This can be tough during down times like the holidays. If you hire a professional adwords manager, they are going to charge you the same monthly fee, even if you’re down to counting pennies to pay your electric bill.

All in all, there’s no wrong choice. In the beginning, it wouldn’t hurt to venture out on your own and see if you can manage your own account. You can always hire someone later.. As your business grows, however, you might simply not have the time to handle your Adwords account. If and when the time comes for you to hire an Adwords manager, be sure to do your homework. Your marketing choices can make or break your business.

Value Added Tax On Google Adwords?

In today’s business world with the rapid advance in internet business activities, internet advertising is hitting all time highs. Google Adwords is a popular form of marketing for getting your website onto the Google search results page. It is an international service for Value Added Tax (VAT) purposes as it is sold to UK businesses by Google Ireland Ltd from Dublin.

If you are a UK business you should not be charged VAT on the cost of the adwords service, as it subject to the reverse charge regulations. This means, if you are VAT registered you need to add VAT at the standard rate applying in the UK to the adwords cost and add the gross cost to both your purchases and sales for the period. You pay the VAT due as if you had made the sale, and you reclaim the VAT due on your purchase of the same service. The net effect for a VAT registered business should be zero, unless it makes VAT exempt sales.

Certain accounting software programmes need some tweaks to cope with the reverse charge mechanism. You should check your system if you are not confident that it is processing the VAT on adwords costs correctly, if you are still unsure it is recommended that you check with a a Chartered accountant such as Pontypridd Accountants who is familiar with the accounting package that you use.

If you have been charged Irish VAT at 21% on your Google adwords, this may be because Google Ireland Ltd has recorded you as being a personal customer, not a business. If you are a UK business, not necessarily VAT registered, you can reclaim this erroneously charged VAT from Google Ireland Ltd. You cannot reclaim this VAT through the international VAT refunds service operated by HMRC as the VAT should not have been charged by Google in the first place. You should not include the Irish VAT on your UK VAT return as it is not correctly charged VAT.

International VAT, can be a very complex area and it is recommended that you do not take any such action without speaking to a qualified accountant.

PPC (Pay Per Click) - A Look At The Benefits

The primary reason that you have a website in the first place is to get people to visit. This fact is true whether you are providing information or selling something. One measure of success of a website is the number of visitors it gets, and one way to increase the traffic to your site is to use pay per click advertising. When used effectively, pay per click (PPC) advertising will help you reach your target audience and get them to your website. And when you get right down to dollars and cents, the real measure of the success of a website is the number of paying customers who visit your site.

If you handle your pay per click campaign in the right way, you will get immediate traffic, and your web visitors will tend to be your target audience. PPC is handled in a very unique manner in which you are usually only are charged when your ads are clicked. In order to make sure that your ads are running, you will bid on keyword phrases. The three largest operators of PPC are Google AdWords, Microsoft adCenter and Yahoo! Search Marketing. All three of these companies allow you to bid on your keywords.

The two primary methods of determining what cost per click you will pay for your advertising are contracted flat rates or a bid based model. The leading PPC providers generally operate using the bid-based model, where you must bid in competition with other advertisers for ad placement. In order to make your pay per click advertising effective, it is important that you know your target audience. You need to be able to select the keywords that they are likely searching and are relevant to your website.

Another major benefit to PPC is that even if web browsers don’t click on your link, your company has been marketed to them. This is great for your branding purposes. People will see your brand out there and they will connect it to whatever they are looking for. This means that even if web surfers don’t visit your site right away, they may do so in the coming months.

The advantage of using PPC is that your ads will appear on many different types of websites, giving you wider exposure. One technique is to place your advertisement on a website that offers a product or service that is very similar to what you offer, or complementary to what you offer. If the user finds his or her way to one of these sites, you know that this person is likely part of your target audience. Having your ad placed properly should gain you the type of visitor that you desire.
