The Sonor Force 3007 and the Sonor Force 2007 are the top two drum sets in Sonor’s Force series. If you want a very low cost set the 507 is an option but it isn’t all that good, but here we’ll just be covering the more expensive versions.
So what exactly are the differences between these two drum sets and which one is better? Well, for starters, the Sonor Force is made from maple and the Sonor 2007 is made from birch. Both very different materials which don’t sound similar. The 3007, being made from maple, is that bit darker sounding and more resonant; while the 2007 birch set is more attacking, quick to respond, and bright.
Let’s take a quick look at each of the sets in a little more detail. The Sonor Force 2007 is made from birch as i’ve mentioned, and the shells are 9 plies with 45 degree edges. The sizes of the shells are not very deep so won’t work well for some styles of music.
The features on the Sonor Force 2007 are reasonable and include a tunesafe lugs that prevent the drum heads de-tuning easily while you are playing, and there’s the TAR tom mount that helps the shells vibrate fully. Lastly, the finishes for the shells are great quality at this lower price level, and you won’t struggle to find a color you like.
Ok, so what about the Sonor 3007? This kit comes with a higher price tag, basically because maple is a much more expensive material than birch is. The shells are still 9 plies like the 2007 and it has many of the same features too.
If you like low-mass and cool looking lugs, you’ll love the little beater shaped ones on this set. Again, the rack toms are enhanced byt the TAR mounts, and the bass drum has rubber insulated gaskets to stop the claws from scraping the wooden hoops.
The finishes on the Sonor Force are again gloss laquers but with a different choice of colors like blue sparkle, white, and midnight. They really look out of this world for the low price!
With both the Sonor Force and Sonor 2007 you get a set of stands including a snare, hi-hat, and cymbal stands. You do need to buy yourself some cymbals as neither set comes with them supplied as standard.
The real difference between the two sets is the wood used in making them. If you want a warmer, resonant sound (ideal for jazz) go for the Sonor 3007, if you want a sharper, more aggressive sound (excellent for metal heads and rockers) go for the Sonor 2007.
