In Die Tapping For Progressive Tool

In die tapping allows threading to be done in a progressive tool without involving expensive secondary threading operations. In die tapping units are available in both mechanical and servomotor driven.

Mechanical driven tapping unit

hreading is done by a series of gears arranged in different ratios, which are driven by a vertical lead screw mounted on either the lower or upper tool die shoe. Threading can be done either from top down or bottom up.

Top down in die tapping is most commonly used in stamping operations of higher volume and higher speed (up to 250 spm). Top down tapping operation needs longer Tap travel length if the strip lift increases. Increased of tap travel length will also increase tapping rpm and increase tapping speed, resulting in tapping to be completed in shorter punching stroke length and shorter tap life.

Bottom up tapping unit, the material is pushed down onto the tapping head by the stripper, allowing the tap to thread the part in much the same way as if the part ran flat, rather than the tapping head compensating for strip lift. As strip lift increases, tapping from bottom up becomes more desirable.

Servo-Driven Tapping Unit

The advantage of using a servo driven tapping unit is that the servomotor controls the threading operation independently. It can tap more than 180 deg of the punching cycle at a specified rpm and allows rapid reverse in a shorter cycle time than a conventional mechanical driven unit.

Servo-driven in die tapping units particularly useful when facing large diameter taps.

Points to consider when designing a tapping tool

Material Lift. When tapping from the top down, it is best to keep material lift to a minimum. The lower the material lift, the lesser the tap travel length, and less tap travel translates into lower rpm and higher production rates. If the component requires higher material lift, tapping from bottom up is more desirable.
Stripper Travel. Most tapping dies require longer stripper travel then one without it. In most cases, the stripper must hold the material throughout the entire tapping process. Spring strippers are commonly used in tapping dies.

The die should also be designed with spring pushers on either side of the tapping unit to hold the material during tapping.

Piloting. Due to the longer stripper travel, tapping dies typically require longer pilots. It is a thump of rule to ensure the pilots are registered into the material prior to the tap entering the material.
In some cases, using long Pilots may not be possible, especially for smaller diameters. Thus, the pilots should be designed in the stripper plate or in the lower
die section.

Press Stroke. Most cases, tapping dies require longer punching stroke. In general, a 3 inches press stroke may be used. Higher press stroke length may be necessary when higher material lift is needed.
Gear Ratio. Gear ratio refers to the number of revolutions that the tap will make in 1 inch of length the press stroke traveled.
Example: A tapping unit with 5:1 gear ratio in a 4-in.-stroke press. So, 5 x 4 = 20.
The tap will make 20 revolutions Clockwise and 20 revolutions counterclockwise per press cycle.
If a M3 tap is to be threaded into a 2 mm thick material. The number of revolution required can be calculated as 2 / 0.5 = 4 (pitch =0.5mm) Once the number of required revolutions is determined, you can calculate press stroke and gear ratio.

As a general guide, a lower-stroke presses use higher-ratio tapping units

Die Protection System In Metal Stamping Industry

Die protection system in high speed metal stampings

Die Protection system is used to protect your progressive die in the case of any unexpected event. These events can be misfeed, strip buckle, double hits, slug up, broken punch etc.

A mis-feed pilot is used in most of the tool shops for tool protection since the last four decades. Today, many conventional tool shops are still using it. The micro switch connected to the machine e-stop. The micro switch cut off the power supply and eventually stops the machine when the pilot activated the micro switch when misfeed is detected. This method usually applied to low speed conventional stamping with 50-100 spm.

In today market, stamping machines are running in much more faster speed. Misfeed pilot is no longer sufficient in die protection. Double hit, slug up and strip buckle is no way to be detected by this method.

A Photoelectric fork light sensor is commonly used for reel to reel high speed stamping industry. This fork sensor is a through-beam photosensor with a pre-aligned emitter and receiver permanently housed in a U shaped cast metal case. The sensor is installed either within the tool or at the end of the tool, to detect either a hole or the edge of the strip, it is programmable to count number of passes during one machine cycle according to number of out the tool is running. The counting is done during the feeding of stock material before the punching stroke take place. Electronic signal will pass to the controller to stop the machine when the actual counting does not match the pre-set number. As such, misfeed can be detected immediately before the punching ram is actually descended down. It is a great way to detect misfeed in the high speed stamping environment. However, this method is not able to detect slug up and broken punch effectively.

Another type of die protection system is widely used in the Precision metal stamping industry industry, a sensor is mounted at the die plate or spring stripper to monitors the gap between the stripper and die surface. This gap can be as fine as .00004 inches (1/1000mm), By monitoring these subtle deviations in stripper position or die height, it can detects misfeeds, pulled slugs, double hits or other abnormal conditions. The protection system can be applied to any stamping operation with speeds up to 2500 machine cycles per minute (SPM).
Once the machine is at production speed, the upper and lower limits are automatically adjusted based on your stamping process. Unfortunately, the detection will happen always after the punch and die is in contact. In short, damages had already done to the tool.

The combination of both methods in one tool is advisable for die protection in the high speed stamping industry.

ERP Selection Criteria For Organizations Meeting ISO 9000 ISO 9001 2008 Requirements

Companies implementing ISO 9000 face biggest challenge in keeping their records.

On one hand they have to keep records as per regulatory and statutory requirements and also as per customer requirements.

Many times many customers demand things such as test certificate, analysis report etc. in a specific format. It becomes difficult to organizations to prepare records in separate format and and keep an additional copy as well.

ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning software are good tools to help keep records in proper database format. The benefit is that you can print the record in any format you like (subject to condition that your ERP has facility to select different formats for printing a specific record).

ERP’s are normally designed taking account as base. I mean only financial matters are given importance or preference when ERP is designed or selected. The quality records relating to production, quality control, maintenance still remain on paper requiring double work for the staff.

So when you select a ERP or design one for your industry, keep in mind the records required by your quality management system (ISO 9000) and eliminate all possible paper based records to electronic records.

There are many solutions but may of these system lack in quality assurance. Product inspection and testing records are still required to be maintained on paper but not with QASoft. This also gives benefit of instant analysis of data and taking preventive action on time.

Consider this, you manufacture one product which requires normally 13 different tests but there are 2 optional tests which are done only when required by the customer. Can your ERP handle such situation?

Consider this, you have a machine which needs periodic maintenance very 15 days, but due to lack of time or load on the machine last time you did after 20 days, will your software alert you as per planned schedule or automatically extend the schedule to 5 days?

Consider this, you have billed a customer in USD, but now he wants to pay in EURO, and you are keeping accounts in INR. Will your system require one voucher entry or more than one?

Consider this, you have issued products (raw material etc) for manufacture as per standard bill of material (BOM) but for some r other reason your manufacturing department needs extra material, will your system give valuation based on standard BOM or actually consumed products?

Again will your ERP give price based on standard price or actual batch used in the manufacture?

These are some of the factors you should consider while selecting an ERP solution for your organization.

Several Of The Cause Why Diamonds Are Really Expensive

The diamonds on the market today were formed millions of years ago. Carbon exposed to heat and pressure deep beneath the earth’s surface are what created the dazzling diamond eternity bands you want as your wedding rings.

When choosing the right one, you need to look at the color, cut, clarity, carat and certification of the gemstone. The cut refers to the shape which is typically round, marquise, pear, emerald cut princess cut. A round solitaire engagement ring is classic, but more and more brides are opting for the fancier cuts of the rectangular emerald cut and square princess cut.

Where to buy for the purchase of a diamond the first thing is how expensive it is. You need to ask why it costs so much for a shiny stone. There are many reasons, and handlers of a diamond and each of them bears the cost to the finished product. The first paid miners and mining companies. In South Africa, where most diamonds come, it is a related company, that all diamond mines. The name of this company of De Beers and its just like the OPEC of the diamond industry. The De Beers Group for the production and sale of diamonds, so that the market be flooded with an abundance of cheap diamonds.

After the stone from the mine to be rehabilitated. During this process, it is cut and polished diamonds as more than just a shiny stone. Then the diamonds to the markets around the world. Jewelers as the purchase of diamonds for sale, either as loose diamonds or in an institution to be sold to a jewelry shop.

During the journey diamonds from the ground to your finger many hands they have. Some of these hands will never be the diamond. There are several ways in which a piece of cake. There are corrupt officials to pay off. Some of the countries where governments often cut diamonds changed by the war and rebellion. Some are good and some not. They have their share of the cake with legal duties.

Then there’s the smugglers that they can offer cheaper diamonds, because they are outside the legal system and not the payment of taxes and charges, the company. But they can not issue certificates of authenticity, the diamonds to legitimate channels.

There are synthetic diamonds on the market that are more similar than the Diamonds won. These synthetic diamonds are cheaper to make and sell for less, which would affect the selling price of real diamonds. Given the developments of the market and the popularity of diamonds, many people are now cheaper to buy from the people. If there is enough income losses due to a different product can bring the prices of subsidized stones.

Of course, the end of the stone is cut, clarity, color and weight. It is also the value of the individual is ready for a rock. There are many famous jewels in the world, are more valuable because of the story. One is the Hope Diamond. Its value is higher because of fame or shame.

Shipping Container Sizes - Things You Should Know

When you buy or hire shipping containers more often than not you do so by size. The size you choose is normally to suit what space you have available or how many stuff you need to store or ship. Most individuals ask for a 20ft or a 40ft container as these are the most often on hand. Why is that? In fact the shipping industry was responsible for determining shipping container sizes. For what you probably don?t realise as you choose the size you want is that the typical sizes of shipping container ? either 20ft or 40ft long by 8ft wide and 8ft 6in tall ? revolutionised the cost of shipping.

For these standard sizes meant that the loading and unloading of shipping containers could be mechanised meaning that only a few pieces of equipment are needed to move the containers rather than the extensive manpower and different types of machinery that had been needed to move the varying shapes of palletised goods that had up until then been usual. It also meant that large numbers of iso containers could be organized on a single ship as they are easily arranged in large stacks.

Of course the standard 20ft and 40ft are not the only sizes of storage containers available. As such items such as cars, food, clothes etc were shipped inside the containers from all over the world at considerably reduced costs than had previously been available.

There are 20ft and 40ft high cube steel containers available which are 9ft 6in tall and are particularly convenient for putting taller machinery and equipment in. Smaller sizes of shipping container are also used - such as the 8ft and 10ft long containers although these often have to be shipped as ?special cargo? rather than going on the main container decks.

But nowadays, shipping containers are not just used for shipping. They are regularly used for secure, dry storage. As such, shipping container dimensions can be altered to any length from 40ft downwards. A popular size is the 30ft container for example, but people will often ask for a 16ft of 18ft if that is all the room that they have. Mind you, it is vital when working out the container for you to take into consideration that an extra 4ft will be required if the doors to the container are to be opened fully.
So how do you know what size of shipping container to choose. It is difficult to envisage what quantity of goods a 20ft shipping container could hold. It is useful to compare a 20ft container to a single garage and a 40ft to a double garage from a standpoint of storage.

Indeed you can fit most models of car into a 20ft shipping container, although the 8ft width does make it tricky to get out, and the car has to either be pushed in the last few feet or the driver has to get out out of the window!

Normally, people ask for an 8ft or 10ft container believing that it will be cost less than the 20ft. Yet because a 10ft or and 8ft is usually made from from a 20ft container, the additional labour means that the 10ft or 8ft is as ? if not more ? expensive than the standard 20ft size. So, if you have the area for the larger size, it is often worth buying as you get more storage space for a comparable amount of money.
Next time you are considering what size of iso container to buy or hire, think about a 20ft or a 40ft if you are on a budget, and remember that if space is an issue to allow enough room to open the 4ft container door!

Hi my name is jim i work at J.CLARK
located in la ca since 1985.

We opened back in 1959 my grand father was the owner back when the company was known as clark. His name is wallace clark he was born and raise in detroit the company then was located in detroit as well. He was a one man shop that was pretty good at machining & grinding for the areospace and mine industry.

He started to hire family members only to work with him at his shop. The reason being he felt in order to provide THE BEST ( thats how he phrase it) he needed people that will listen to him to learn from him & so that his shop can run as a team constantly being on the same page.

So being he was the older brother in the fam he had the up most respect. It was like killing two birds with one stone because back in the day he was the only single person that was well to do .
The rest of the fam had realy hard times.

He ran he’s shop for twenty four years working his butt off for all his customers witch he was thankfull for.

In 1984 he went visiting to los angeles ca where he had a sister that live in san gabrial valley ca. During his trip his sister pass away and decided to remain there to take care of the rest of the family.

During this time the aerospace business got very slow and at that time there was a ton of mom and pop machine shops that open up.These machine shops started to do some bad work with realy high prices witch made things worst. So my grand father close the machine shop and move to los angeles he love everything about it the waether was the main reason.

After about six months he decided to put up shop in los angeles california back in 1985 but location didnt change the fact that the aerospace and mine industry was realy bad.So my dad went up to the lax airports and got on the vendors list and started doing the cylinder for them.

Good thing on this website is video box in almost every section with newest video clips from selected category.

This is giving to visitor more interaction with service and more comfortable surfing. The distinction between science, engineering and technology is not always clear. Science is the reasoned investigation or study of phenomena, aimed at discovering enduring principles among elements of the phenomenal world by employing formal techniques such as the scientific method. Technologies are not usually exclusively products of science, because they have to satisfy requirements such as utility, usability and safety. Engineering is the goal-oriented process of designing and making tools and systems to exploit natural phenomena for practical human means, often (but not always) using results and techniques from science. The development of technology may draw upon many fields of knowledge, including scientific, engineering, mathematical, linguistic, and historical knowledge, to achieve some practical result.

Technology is often a consequence of science and engineering ? although technology as a human activity precedes the two fields. For example, science might study the flow of electrons in electrical conductors, by using already-existing tools and knowledge. This new-found knowledge may then be used by engineers to create new tools and machines, such as semiconductors, computers, and other forms of advanced technology.Technology can be viewed as an activity that forms or changes culture. Additionally, technology is the application of math, science, and the arts for the benefit of life as it is known. A modern example is the rise of communication technology, which has lessened barriers to human interaction and, as a result, has helped spawn new subcultures; the rise of cyberculture has, at its basis, the development of the Internet and the computer. Not all technology enhances culture in a creative way; technology can also help facilitate political oppression and war via tools such as guns. As a cultural activity, technology predates both science and engineering, each of which formalize some aspects of technological endeavor.

The engineering NGneering web team’s wish is to collect huge number of high quality sci-tech links to other resources, and than to present it to visitors. From there they can easy surf to any important sci-tech destination on internet. This web directory is still in beta phase, it’ll be full operational in about 2 months.Everything what you need from science, technology and engineering world you can find by visiting adress http://www.ngneering.comtechnology and immediatelly bookmark it. Finishing Parts Become Easy With Tumbling Media And Compounds

Tumbling media are materials that are used in the finishing process. They are loaded with parts to be finished into finishing machines, with or without tumbling compounds. They help in cleaning, smoothing and deburring of parts. Tumbling media can be man made or natural. Man made media include plastic media, synthetic media and ceramic media which come in preformed shapes. Natural media include walnut shell media and corn cob media. Tumbling media are used in finishing machines like tumbling barrels, vibratory machines and centrifugal machines.

Plastic media are otherwise known as tumbling stones. They come in shapes like cones, pyramids and triangles and have varying abrasive properties. They create smooth but dull finishes on surfaces and because of their light weight are suited for use on parts that might get damaged easily. They are safe on threaded parts and can be used on parts as a pre cursor to anodizing. The cone shaped plastic media act well on parts with holes and triangle shape acts well on edges and flat surfaces. Multiple shapes can be used on parts with complex designs.

Ceramic tumbling media are made of silica, minerals and abrasives mixed in different proportions and processed at high temperatures to produce hardened shapes. They are good for aggressive finishing needs and work well with hard metal parts. They suit usage with heavy loads that cannot be handled by plastics; they also come in smaller sizes and hence are suited for smaller parts. Synthetic tumbling media also come in different shapes; they weigh lesser compared to ceramic media. They are cost effective and are good to provide ultra smooth finishes. Compared to plastic media, they take more wear and tear and residue left from processing is lesser. They are ideal for use in high energy machines like centrifugal barrels.

Tumbling compounds are chemicals used to increase the effectiveness of media by ensuring that glaze is not formed on the parts during the finishing process. They act as abrasive agents and help in maintaining a nice color to the metal parts. They impart anti rust and anti corrosion properties to the parts when the right agents are added to them; they are effective cleaning agents and help in deburring by suspending debris and preventing them from getting re-deposited on the parts. The compounds are either alkaline or acidic in nature depending on the media they are used with.

The flow rate of the tumbling compounds should be matched with the volume of media being used for a good finish. Tumbling compounds are known to help in degreasing, descaling and removing grime. They help in lubrication of parts to protect them. They help in grinding, polishing and brightening of surfaces. They help to finish delicate parts by providing a cushioning effect and preventing damage to the parts. Acidic tumbling compounds enhance cutting speeds and bleaching efficiency. When used in proper combination with finishing media, tumbling compounds help to reduce cycle times substantially.
